Say Their Names
2020, W36″xH36″, Cotton, Machine appliquée and embroiderd
Sewn during Summer 2020 following the murder of George Floyd, and during the protests against police violence in the time of the pandemic, I hoped to create art to honor the lives and legacies of those who lost their lives at the hand of police violence or brutality. I immersed myself in the stories and lives of the people whose names are embroidered around the images of rising fists demanding change and justice. They”say their name” movement encourages people to remember all of those who died on this journey for change. The names sparked a movement, and they deserve to be honored and remembered.
